Troubleshooting
How much internet speed IPTV needs
As a rule of thumb, IPTV needs about 10 Mbps of steady download per HD stream, 15-25 Mbps for 4K, and less for SD — plus headroom for everything else on the line. These are the general streaming-bitrate ranges the whole industry uses; the number that matters is your speed at the time you watch, on the device you watch on.
Test the number that matters
- Run a speed test on the streaming device itself (not a laptop next to it), at the time you normally watch.→ You see the real speed and jitter under household load.
- Compare it to the table above for the quality you want.→ Well above it -> the line is not the problem. Below it -> fix Wi-Fi/ISP before anything else.
- Prefer wired Ethernet where the device supports it.→ Jitter drops and mid-stream freezes usually stop.

Guided check 1 of 3
Do this: Run a speed test on the streaming device itself (not a laptop next to it), at the time you normally watch.
Expected: You see the real speed and jitter under household load.
Typical requirement by quality (general figures)
| Quality | Per stream (approx.) | Comfortable line speed |
|---|---|---|
| SD | 2-4 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| HD (720/1080) | 5-10 Mbps | 20-25 Mbps |
| Full HD 50/60fps | 8-12 Mbps | 25 Mbps |
| 4K / UHD | 15-25 Mbps | 40 Mbps+ |
Multiply the per-stream figure by the number of screens that watch at once.
